Uses of There and It (There & It এর ব্যবহার)
বাক্যের subject যদি অনির্দিষ্ট হয় এবং বাক্যের verb হয় “be”—অর্থাৎ, “থাকা”, কিংবা “অস্তিত্ব থাকা”—অর্থজ্ঞাপক অন্য কোন verb, তাহলে বাক্যের প্রথমে there ব্যবহৃত হয়। (বিস্তারিত জানার জন্য grammar অংশে দেখ।) নিচে there এর সাথে ব্যবহৃত হয় beverb এর এমন কতকগুলাে রূপ এবং অন্যান্য কয়েকটি verb এর রূপ দেয়া হল।

এবার নিচের উদাহরণগুলাে পড় এবং প্রতিটি বাক্যের verb এর গঠন কিভাবে হল তা উপরের table টি থেকে দেখে নাও।
বাতাসে অক্সিজেন আছে= There is oxygen in the air.
এই বনে বাঘ আছে= There are tigers in this jungle.
মানুষের মধ্যে কিছু কুকুর’ আছে= There are some ‘dogs’ in men.
এই পুকুরে সাপ থাকে= There are snakes in this pond.
কোন সমস্যা ছিল না= There was no problem.
সেখানে বিশজন লোক ছিল= There were twenty people there.
কোন বিপদ হবে না= There will be no danger.
তােমার লেখায় ভুল থাকবে= There will be mistakes in your writing.
এই বনে বাঘ থাকতে পারে= There may be tigers in this jungle.
এ কথা সত্য হতে পারে= It may be true.
দুধটুকুতে জীবানু থাকতে পারত= There might be germs in the milk.
তুমি একাকী কাজটি করলে কেন? কিছু ভুল থেকে যেতে পারত = Why did you do the work alone? There might have been mistakes (or, something wrong).
এখানে একটি পুকুর থাকা উচিত=There should be a pond here.
এতে কোন স্বজনপ্রীতি থাকা উচিত ছিল না= There should have been no nepotism in it.
যন্ত্রটি ঠিকমত চলছে না; নিশ্চয়ই কোন সমস্যা আছে= The machine is not running well; there must be some problem.
সেদিন যন্ত্রটি ঠিকমত চলেনি; নিশ্চয়ই কোন সমস্যা ছিল=That day the machine did not run well; there must have been some problem.
একটি সমস্যা থাকতে পারে= There can be a problem.
তুমি একাকী গেলে কেন? কোন সমস্যা হতে পারত= Why did you go alone? There could be a problem.
একটি ভুল আছে বলে মনে হয়=There seems to be a mistake.
কোন ভুল ছিল বলে মনে হয় = There seemed to be some mistake.
তাদের জেতার একটি সম্ভাবনা আছে বলে মনে হয়= There appears to be a possibility of their winning.
এখানে একটি মসজিদ আছে= There exists a mosque here.
এক দেশে থাকে এক পাগল= There lives a madman in a country.
এক দেশে ছিল এক রাজা= There lived(=was) a king in a country.
আমরা যখন মােহনায় উপনীত হলাম তখন ভয়াবহ ঝড় উঠল= When we arrived at the estuary, there arose a terrible storm.
Exercise for Use of There
এতক্ষণ তােমরা there এর যে ব্যবহার শিখেছ তাকে বলে there এর introductory ব্যবহার। আর এভাবে ব্যবহৃত হলে there কে বলে introductory ‘there’. এবার তাহলে নিচের বাক্যগুলােকে ইংরেজিতে অনুবাদ কর।
(১) এই গ্রামে একটি কলেজ ছিল।
(২) এই পুকুরে মাছ থাকতে পারে।
(৩) এই কবিতায় একটি মজার জিনিস আছে।
(৪) এখানে একটি সভা হবে।
(৫) আর কোন গন্ডগােল (বা, ঝগড়া) হওয়া উচিত নয়।
(৬) এই দেশে একটি ভাল হাসপাতাল থাকা উচিত ছিল।
(৭) তুমি ঐ ঝােপের মধ্যে গেলে কেন? ওখানে সাপ থাকতেও পারত।
(৮) এখন আর কোন বিদি হবে না।
(৯) এক দেশে ছিল এক বিখ্যাত যাদুকর (wizard, sorcerer). ।
