What are the minimum academic prerequisites for admission?

Applicants must have at least two years of undergraduate coursework completed with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher. The required courses include General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Biochemistry (or equivalent), Physics I and Lab (or its equivalent), Calculus I and II (or equivalent), General Biology with Lab I and II, Genetics with Lab (or equivalent), Principles of Microbiology with Lab (or equivalent). In addition, applicants should have completed courses in animal sciences/nutrition, vertebrate physiology/anatomy and statistics.

What other requirements do I need to meet?

Along with meeting the academic prerequisites mentioned above, applicants must also demonstrate knowledge in animal science by way of either one year of college-level work in animal science or laboratory experience that shows exceptional talent or interest in animals or livestock production systems. All candidates will be evaluated based on letters of recommendation from three people familiar with their academic work as well as an essay stating their motivations for seeking enrollment in WSU’s Veterinary Medicine program.

Are there any specific interview criteria?

Yes. WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine selects students based on aptitude so they require an admissions interview as part of the application process to gain insight into a candidate’s knowledge base and potential as a veterinary student or professional practitioner.
