My visit to a place of historical interest
Introduction
Man is curious to see the unseen, to know the unknown, and to explore the unexplored (অনাবিকৃত). So as a human being, I also have a keen (গভীর) interest to see and know the historical places.
Occasion
During the last winter vacation, I got a chance to visit Bagerhat which is a well-known historical place. I went there with my father. We reached the Mazar of Khan Jahan Ali at noon.
Visiting the Mazar
We first visited the Mazar of Khan Jahan Ali. Khan Jahan Ali was a great Muslim saint. The Mazar of Khan Jahan Ali is a fine one-storeyed building. It has a beautiful dome (ডােম-গম্বুজ). Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali was buried (সমাধিস্থ করা হয়) there. The tomb (কবর) is made of stones.
On the tomb, there are writings in Arabic that he died on 25 October 1459. There is a beautiful mosque near the Mazar. There is a big tank in front of the Mazar. There are some crocodiles in the tank. They come near when the Fakirs call and give them something to eat. I enjoyed all these sights very much.
Other sights
After we had visited the Mazar we went to see the Shatgambuj Mosque. It is a very large and beautiful building. I was greatly impressed (প্রভাবিত হয়) by this splendid mosque. Beside the Mosque there is a big Dighi. This is called the ‘Ghora Dighi.’
There is a saying that before digging the Dighi, a horse was made to run a certain distance and that distance was accepted as the length of the Dighi. I visited the Dighi and the nearby areas. I also came to know a lot about the social service of Khan Jahan Ali.
Conclusion
Bagerhat is really a beautiful place of historical interest. I spent only a few hours there. I learned many things from this visit. I feel really fortunate to visit such a place. The memory of this visit will remain ever fresh in my mind.
