Women empowerment means creating opportunities for women to make their decisions about their life, living, and surroundings. It is the precondition to the all-around development of a country. In Bangladesh, women empowerment is receiving the utmost importance both in the public and private sectors.

Traditionally women are treated inferior to men. So, they live in a male-dominated society. They are often deprived of proper education and care. They have almost no economic security. Besides, violence against women is alarmingly high. Women are also physically and sexually harassed in their families and job places. However, this scenario is changing gradually in Bangladesh.

    Proper education for women is the first step to women’s empowerment. They should have knowledge of their rights, health issues, gender equality, etc. Besides, women should be employed in suitable jobs. Their workplaces should also be made safe and secure.     Article 28, Chapter 3 of the Bangladesh constitution mentions the fundamental rights of women. The government has made laws and has undertaken many projects to ensure women’s rights. Still, there are some barriers to women’s empowerment. These are mostly cultural, traditional, or religious.
